| The Future Is Here
The first question...Home Audio or Home Theatre??
We feel that Home Theatre, also called "surround sound", will be as important a development as the compact disc. However, if you do not buy or rent lots of movies, your best value remains the Home Audio System. Purchasing a surround sound receiver in anticipation of future plans could be a poor investment, especially with the advent of two new video formats, Dolby Digital AC-3 and Steven Speilberg's Digital Theatre System (DTS). Then again, you could buy any format safely, using the Dewar "Escape-Clause"...our Trade-up Program (see Trade-up).
The fundamentals of a Home THX® system are the "re-equalization or correction" of sound needed to match the theatre environment within your home environment.
Otherwise, your movie sound will appear overly bright and shrill.
"Timber Matching" is the second element. This provides a smoother "panning" action of the sound on the surround speakers.
Finally, "de-correlation" to produce a better envelopment process.
